The MicroBT Whatsminer M72S produces 264 TH/s at 4,000W with air cooling on 380 to 480V three phase power. It is the top bin model in the M70 generation's industrial voltage air cooled tier.

The M72 series occupies a unique position: air cooled simplicity on industrial power. Most air cooled Bitcoin miners run on 220 to 240V single phase (like the M70 series) or 100 to 240V universal (like the Bitmain L11). The M72S requires 380 to 480V three phase, which means it is targeting facilities with industrial electrical infrastructure that have chosen not to invest in liquid cooling.

Why would a facility with three phase power skip immersion? Capital cost. Immersion tanks, dielectric fluid, heat exchangers, pumps, and plumbing add substantial upfront investment per unit deployed. Air cooled miners need power and ventilation. For operations with three phase power and high ceiling warehouse space with adequate airflow, the M72S avoids the liquid infrastructure cost entirely while still operating on industrial electrical.

At 4 kW per unit, a 100 kW panel supports 25 M72S units producing 6,600 TH/s total. The M72 (standard bin) at 246 TH/s fits the same 25 units per panel at 6,150 TH/s.

The M72S is for operators who have warehouse or industrial space with three phase power and good natural ventilation but no liquid cooling capability. Container deployments with exhaust fans and three phase service are a common use case. The 0 to 40 degree operating range covers most climates outside extreme cold.
