360 GH/s Blake3 at 180W and 0.5 J/GH efficiency. ±5 percent tolerance on both hashrate and power. Single algorithm, single mode operation for Alephium (ALPH) mining. For context, this is the hashrate equivalent of approximately 60 NVIDIA RTX 4090 GPUs from a 2.2 kg desktop device at half the power draw of a single GPU.
Alephium is a sharded proof of work blockchain that processes transactions across 16 parallel chains (4 groups, 16 chains). Unlike single chain PoW networks (Bitcoin, Litecoin), Alephium achieves throughput scaling through genuine state sharding while retaining PoW consensus security. The blockchain also supports smart contracts through its Alphred virtual machine using a stateful UTXO model, combining Bitcoin's security design with Ethereum's programmability. ALPH is listed on Gate.io, MEXC, and other exchanges. The project positions as a scalable PoW smart contract platform.
Yes. The Goldshell AL Box was the world's first dedicated ASIC miner for the Alephium blockchain, released April 2024. Before the AL Box, Alephium was mined exclusively on GPUs since the October 2021 mainnet launch. The AL Box disrupted GPU mining on the network: 60x the hashrate of an RTX 4090 at half the power made GPU mining uneconomical for most operators. Network hashrate climbed rapidly after ASIC deployment as dedicated hardware replaced GPU farm capacity.
Yes. Goldshell AL Box 2 at 720 GH/s (double the output in the same form factor, the direct successor). Goldshell AL Box II Pro at 950 GH/s (approximately 2.6 times the output). Both deliver more hashrate in the same 35 dB desktop format. For new buyers, check availability of AL Box 2 or AL Box II Pro before defaulting to the original AL Box. The original retains value at meaningful price discounts as cleared first generation inventory.
IceRiver AL0 at 400 GH/s, the closest competitor from a second manufacturer. Approximately 11 percent more hashrate than the AL Box from IceRiver's competing platform. IceRiver AL2 Lite at 2 TH/s for operators wanting substantially more hashrate in a larger format. Having two manufacturers (Goldshell and IceRiver) producing Alephium ASICs reduces supply chain dependency on a single brand and improves buyer pricing leverage.
35 dB from two cooling fans at 4,500 RPM. Consistent with the entire Goldshell Box series standard. Inaudible from the next room. Operates in bedrooms, home offices, shared living spaces, and apartments without anyone registering its presence. At 180W, the AL Box produces less heat than a gaming laptop under load, so thermal management in residential spaces requires no special consideration.
Universal 100 to 240V AC. At 180W the unit draws approximately 1.6 amps at 110V or approximately 0.8 amps at 220V. Fits any standard residential outlet worldwide. No circuit considerations whatsoever. Monthly electricity at $0.08 per kWh: approximately $10.37. One of the cheapest ASIC mining devices to operate monthly, costing less than most basic subscription services.
Yes. The AL Box includes a WiFi antenna for wireless connectivity alongside standard Ethernet. WiFi allows placement anywhere with a power outlet and wireless network signal, removing the Ethernet cable run requirement. Configure WiFi through the Goldshell web interface or mobile app. eBay listings confirm "WIFI Antenna" as a box content item.
At standard residential rates, no. MillionMiner calculator at $0.08 per kWh: -$0.29 daily. Revenue approximately $0.05 daily at April 2026 ALPH price and network difficulty. ASIC deployment on Alephium since 2024 has compressed per unit mining revenue dramatically from the early days when the AL Box launched to strong returns. Mining ALPH on the AL Box is now a speculative accumulation strategy at approximately $0.35 daily electricity cost, roughly the price of a cup of coffee from a vending machine.
Goldshell and most distributor documentation specifies 0 to 35 degrees Celsius at 0 to 65 percent humidity. MM lists 5 to 45 degrees Celsius at 10 to 90 percent humidity which differs from manufacturer spec. The 35 degree ceiling and 65 percent humidity cap matter for warm or humid climate deployments. Air conditioned space recommended during hot months in Gulf region or tropical environments.
Approximately 198 x 150 x 96 mm per ASIC Marketplace and X-ON Mining (MM lists 178 x 150 x 84 mm, verify actual dimensions). Weight approximately 2.2 kg. Roughly the size of a small external hard drive enclosure. Two fans. Built in PSU (verify with MillionMiner as some distributors ship without PSU). Sits on any desk, shelf, or countertop alongside consumer electronics.
Three step setup. Connect power cable (or external PSU if applicable) to the AL Box and plug into any 100 to 240V outlet. Connect Ethernet or configure WiFi through Goldshell app (attach external WiFi antenna first). Find miner IP through Goldshell finder tool, router DHCP, or network scanner. Open web interface, configure Blake3 pool URL and ALPH wallet address. Goldshell mobile app supports iOS and Android configuration. Total setup approximately 10 minutes.
Major Alephium Blake3 mining pools accept AL Box hashrate including Herominers, Metapool, Woolypooly, and others. NiceHash Blake3 marketplace allows selling hashrate for Bitcoin rather than mining ALPH directly. Pool availability has grown since ASIC introduction to the network. Pool fees typically 1 to 2 percent. At 360 GH/s against current Alephium network hashrate, pool mining is the only practical approach for consistent returns.
MM lists PSU in box contents. However, multiple eBay listings specifically note "No PSU" or "Without Power Supply" for the AL Box. Some listings include PSU while others do not. Verify PSU inclusion directly with MillionMiner before ordering. If PSU is not included, a standard external power supply rated for 180W+ with the correct connector is required.
Three distinguishing features. First, sharding: 16 parallel chains across 4 groups process transactions simultaneously, providing throughput that single chain PoW cannot match. Second, smart contracts on PoW: the Alphred VM enables programmability using a stateful UTXO model, rare in the PoW ecosystem where most smart contract platforms moved to proof of stake. Third, the combination positions Alephium as a scalable PoW smart contract platform, a category with very few competitors. Whether these technical differentiators translate to adoption and token value is the speculative question Alephium miners are betting on.
Yes. Each unit operates independently. At 180W each, a standard 15 amp 110V circuit (1,800W capacity) supports ten AL Box units (1,800W total). Configure all units to the same pool and wallet. Ten units produce approximately 3.6 TH/s aggregate, exceeding the AL Box II Pro's 950 GH/s from a multi unit desktop deployment at whisper quiet collective noise. The economics of ten AL Box units versus one AL Box II Pro depend on acquisition cost per GH/s at purchase time.
Minimal. Quarterly dust wipe of chassis and two fan grilles. Monitor hashrate through Goldshell web interface or mobile app. No coolant, no filters, no internal servicing. Released April 2024, units have approximately two years of field reliability data. Solid state hardware with only two small fans as moving parts.
MillionMiner technically accepts AL Box units, but hosting economics at 180W generating approximately $0.05 daily revenue make the arrangement impractical. Hosting fees would exceed mining revenue at any realistic rate tier. The AL Box is designed for self hosted desktop deployment where the operator absorbs the modest electricity cost as part of a speculative token accumulation strategy.
Only in specific scenarios. This is first generation hardware now superseded by the AL Box 2 (720 GH/s) and AL Box II Pro (950 GH/s). At standard electricity rates, mining revenue does not cover electricity. Buy the AL Box if: it is available at deep discount versus newer models and you want the absolute lowest capital entry into Alephium ASIC mining, you want a functional piece of Alephium mining history (first ASIC ever made for the network), you want to accumulate ALPH at approximately $0.35 daily electricity cost as a speculative position on Alephium ecosystem growth, or you are building a multi unit fleet at the lowest possible per unit cost. Check AL Box 2 and AL Box II Pro availability and pricing before defaulting to the original.
Direct upgrades: Goldshell AL Box 2 (720 GH/s, double output), Goldshell AL Box II Pro (950 GH/s, approximately 2.6x output). Competing manufacturer: IceRiver AL0 (400 GH/s Blake3 desktop). For cross algorithm niche mining diversification at same 35 dB tier: Goldshell KA Box (1.18 TH/s Kaspa), Goldshell HS Box II (460 GH/s HNS / 1,200 GH/s SC), Goldshell KD Box II (5 TH/s Kadena), Goldshell CK Box II (2.1 TH/s Nervos), iBeLink BM-N3 Mini (1.8 TH/s Nervos). For Bitcoin at home tier: Bitaxe Gamma 601 (1.2 TH/s SHA-256). For Scrypt at quiet home tier: Fluminer L1 Pro (6 GH/s, 45 dB).
