What the Z15K actually delivers

The Antminer Z15K is built for one job: the Equihash algorithm behind Zcash and Horizen. It runs at 525 kSol/s and draws 2,483 W from the wall, which works out at 4.73 J/kSol. That efficiency figure is the number that matters on a machine you intend to leave running, because on Equihash the electricity bill decides whether the box makes sense long before the hashrate does.

Bitmain ships it as a single sealed unit with the power supply already built in. There is no separate PSU to source, no riser cards and no assembly. You unbox it, plug it into a suitable outlet, run an Ethernet cable to it and open the web interface in a browser.

The electrical side, in… plain terms

The Z15K needs 200 to 240 V. A standard 120 V household outlet in the United States will not run it. In practice that means a dedicated 240 V circuit, the kind an electrician installs for a clothes dryer or a range, on its own breaker. Treat the 2,483 W figure as continuous draw, not a peak, and size the circuit with headroom rather than to the exact number.

If you are adding a second or third machine later, plan the circuits now. Retrofitting a panel after the fact costs more than doing it once.

How loud it really is

Bitmain rates the Z15K at 72 dB. That is roughly a vacuum cleaner running without a pause, day and night. Two fans run constantly and the pitch does not change, which is the part people underestimate: it is not the volume so much as the fact that it never stops.

A closed door does not solve it. A detached garage, a workshop, an outbuilding or a basement far from bedrooms does. If the only space you have is inside the living area, this is the wrong machine for that room, and it is better to know that before the box arrives than after.

Heat is the other half of the question

Almost every watt the Z15K draws leaves it again as heat. At 2,483 W that is the output of a large electric space heater, running around the clock. In winter in a workshop that is a bonus. In a closed room in summer it is a problem, and it will shorten the life of the machine.

What the Z15K wants is moving air: cool air in on one side, hot air out the other, with nothing recirculating. An open door and a box fan is often enough for a single unit in a garage. The operating window Bitmain gives is 5 to 45 °C and 5 to 95 % humidity, and staying comfortably inside it is what keeps fans and boards alive.

Pool, wallet and first payout

The Z15K is a solo piece of hardware, not a service. You point it at a mining pool that supports Equihash and Zcash, enter your own ZEC wallet address as the payout target and give the worker a name so you can tell your machines apart in the pool dashboard. The whole configuration happens in the miner's web interface and takes a few minutes.

Several established pools support Zcash, and the right one for you depends on payout scheme, minimum payout and how close the servers are to you. If you have not chosen one yet, say so when you order and we will walk through it with you on a call.

Where it sits in the Zcash line

Bitmain sells the Z15K in two performance bins, 525 kSol/s and 565 kSol/s, and both share the same 2,483 W draw and the same chassis. Above them sits the Z15 Pro at 840 and 860 kSol/s with a higher power draw, and below sits the older Z15 at 420 kSol/s. For most buyers the 525 is the sensible entry into the current generation: it is the cheapest way into the Z15K efficiency class, and you can add a second unit later rather than paying for a bigger one up front.
